mcgill. Biography

mcgill.

Born July 5th, l954, raised in London, Ont., Gary soon made his priorities toward music known.

Gary & His Uke

At age four he loved his plastic ukulele ... sadly, however, he insisted on playing the thing during the news once too often, and it was promptly smashed over the garbage can outside. It would be ten years until he got his first guitar and started to practice voraciously several hours a day to the point of being a recluse in his room - It was six months before he learned to tune the guitar but that didn't stop him from going on to learn just about everything there was to learn in popular music concerning the guitar - covering all the rock icons of the day, learning all their tricks, and gaining respect throughout Ontario as a fine guitarist with abilities beyond the call of duty, impressing even other musicians who had "seen it all."

......after months of practise......

On one occasion Gary was playing guitar in a top forty cover band filling in for another player who was sick, and when it came time for his solo over simple changes in a country song, two of the musicians were so taken by what they heard, that they just quit playing during the song!
Also a sideman who has seen music from every angle-Gary has played bass on tours behind a tap dancer, played guitar and keyboards in a Beatles clone act, picked and grinned in an eight-piece Irish show band and wailed loudly in various high production heavy rock acts. He also played drums and acted as MC for an Elvis Presley Tribute act, and has played since l983 by himself in a high-tech solo act, playing colleges, universities, and opening for such acts as Al Stewart, Midge Ure, Dave Mason, The Young Saints, and Spice, and Trooper.
Now, after six years of the project sitting on the shelf, Gary is releasing his debut album, Alien Resident in Waiting". However, this guy known for his "guitaristic" self indulgence has let his guitar playing take a back seat to song structure, melody, and accessibility to a wide audience. Mind you, there's still lots of guitar...
